Theme Giant Bulb – Royal Passion

In the year 1862, a small-scale company on the ‘Zanderij van Six’ started growing flower bulbs in addition to potatoes. The roots of the success lie in the sandy soils around Hillegom. Gerrit Veldhuyzen van Zanten had foresight; flower bulbs then turned out to be the future in the global market and so the Van Zanten Brothers, Royal Dutch Flower Bulb Nursery was born. In 1897 Royal Van Zanten settled on Loosterweg where they are still located to this day, which can be seen on the front of the Giant Tulip Bulb. In over 160 years they have introduced many successful and award-winning varieties. From the beautiful lily ‘Signum’, the snow-white pot chrysanthemum ‘Organza’, the striking Celosia ‘Hot Topic’ and the unique alstroemeria ‘Charmelia’, all of which can be seen on the back of the bulb. This colorful Giant Tulip Bulb and the finely rendered flowers show the passion that Van Zanten stands for. In honor of the 160th anniversary, Royal Van Zanten has adopted the Giant Tulip Bulb. With the adoption they want to contribute to this project to make the region even more attractive and known to Dutch and foreign tourists.

Artist – Jan Hogervorst

Jan Hogervorst has lived in Lisse (De Engel) all his life. He has always worked in the hospitality industry and has been retired for three years. This gave him more time to pick up his hobby: painting and drawing. He has enjoyed this a lot since his school days, but never really had time to do anything with it. Painting and drawing is his passion and he does this with great pleasure and enthusiasm. He actually paints everything he likes and does that on commission.
