Theme Giant Bulb – From De Zilk to Beijing

On this Giant Tulip Bulb, you see the story of the company Heemskerk & Zn. The ‘Prinsenhof’ farm was built on the site of this company around the beginning of the 18th century. Until it was demolished in 2005, the side walls were still the original walls. The converted stables (around 1960) served as storage cells for the flower bulbs until the end. The company has traditionally focused on the cultivation of tulips, but hyacinths are also grown, and hippeastrums have been grown since 2016, a completely new cultivation in the Dutch outdoors at that time. The Heemskerk tulips can also be seen annually in the Keukenhof in Lisse. The Great Wall of China on the sphere symbolizes the cooperation with China, because since 2010 spheres from De Zilk have been sent to China, mainly for the large city parks.

Artist – Jan Hogervorst

Jan Hogervorst has lived in Lisse (De Engel) all his life. He has always worked in the hospitality industry and has been retired for three years. This gave him more time to pick up his hobby: painting and drawing. He has enjoyed this a lot since his school days, but never really had time to do anything with it. Painting and drawing is his passion and he does this with great pleasure and enthusiasm. He actually paints everything he likes and does that on commission.
