Theme Giant Bulb – 75 years and still counting

In 1949, Fred Cremer founded the Cremer company, after he invented and developed the first counting machine for the flower bulb industry. This machine marked the beginning of a technological revolution in the flower bulb industry, which previously depended entirely on human labor for counting and packaging flower bulbs. Since then, Cremer has developed into a market leader in counting machines for various industries, including the agricultural, pharmaceutical, food and non-food sectors.

The Giant Tulip Bulb depicts a Cremer bulb counting machine amid the beautiful tulip fields of the Bulb Region. Here it becomes clear how the bulbs are counted during planting and harvested after flowering, after which they go through the counting machine and are then ready for trade. A Cremer bulb counting machine like this one is common among flower growers.

Artist – Jan Hogervorst

Jan Hogervorst has lived in Lisse (De Engel) all his life. He has always worked in the hospitality industry and has been retired for three years. This gave him more time to pick up his hobby: painting and drawing. He has enjoyed this a lot since his school days, but never really had time to do anything with it. Painting and drawing is his passion and he does this with great pleasure and enthusiasm. He actually paints everything he likes and does that on commission.
