Theme Giant Tulip Bulb- Perspective of Leiden

This Giant Tulip Bulb reflects the culture of Leiden and his canals in all its glory and perspective. Dressed in the hues of the city, a tribute is paid to the famous Mayor Pieter van der Werf, who saved the beautiful city during the Siege of Leiden. The canals, the buildings and of course the symbol of the city; the keys are important parts of the city. With a beer, and the typical food for the 3th of October; a plate of stew, herring and white bread in your hand, you can enjoy the party and atmosphere of Leiden.

Artists – Students of the ‘Da Vinci College’

At the end of last school year, the 5th VWO class provided sketches and ideas for the design. It was immediately clear that they wanted to create the city of Leiden, where they live, where their school is located and what they are proud of. Yannick Wilthof, Mats Schutz, Madelief Gérard and Nick Schouten, students from 6 VWO of the Da Vinci College (location: Kagerstraat), made a choice from all the designs provided and painted the Giant Tulip Bulb. With enthusiasm and a lot of personal input, they determined which sketches they wanted to use for the bulb and they got to work with enthusiasm. It was immediately clear that perspective would play a major role. These students will take their final exams in drawing in 2024 and are also active in making art outside of school.
