Theme Giant Bulb – The mountains of Bibelebol
This Giant Bulb is based on the cultivation of tulip flowers in water. The tulip bulbs are pricked on prick trays with water to raise the flowers. When the artist visited the fjords in Norway, he came up with the idea of painting tulip bulbs that rise from the water like enormous mountains. This in combination with the reflections in the smooth water gives a special effect. The title is a nod to a well-known Dutch children’s song “Bibelebonse bergen”.
Artist – Leon Roodenburg
Leon Roodenburg started painting about 25 years ago. First he painted abstract paintings, but gradually he started to work more and more figuratively. A recurring theme is the sea and the beach. He also paints other subjects, such as portrait and landscapes. He also makes furniture, 3-dimensional work and lamps. In this work he tries to give a second life to as many discarded objects as possible.
