Theme Giant bulb – In the hunger winter

When he was a kid, the mother of Hein Vandervoort told him that they had to eat tulip bulbs in the winter of 1944-1945 because there was little food available. They made soup or ate them as stew. Hein was impressed by this story and because of his interest in the second world war, it was a logical step to use this story for his part in the giant bulb project. These days tulip bulbs are still sometimes used in dishes. But back in the hunger winter it was no fun and only for survival.
