Welcome at de Tulpenacker

This family land, the Tulpenacker, has a rich history and has been in the family for more than 200 years. The family originally started growing ‘groffies’ (pickles), snow peas and other vegetables. After that they switched to flower growing, including lilies, chrysanthemums, carnations and eventually tulips.

A Heritage of Generations: The Tulpenacker
The Tulpenacker, passed down through the female line of the Straathof and Koek family, is distinguished by six generations of female heirs. The current manager, Kim van Ruiten, took over from her parents in 2013. Together with her husband Erwin van Rijn, she has transformed this place into a beautiful destination for visitors. Their daughter Sam, the sixth generation, was born at this special location.

The land of De Tulpenacker was originally part of ‘Ruiten Fleur’, a large tulip company owned by the family. With two greenhouses of 1500 m² each, it was known for its floral beauty. About twenty years ago, Evert van Ruiten started building a barn and house on the site, which heralded a new phase. Kim van Ruiten took over the management in 2018. This place, previously mainly a nursery, now has a new purpose. Kim van Ruiten and Erwin van Rijn have transformed Tulpenacker into a unique place to stay. Here, both local residents and international visitors can enjoy the serene charm of the Veenderpolder and the beautiful view of the Veldersvaart.
De Tulpenacker’s tulips, once spread all over the world, now make way for visitors from all over the world to experience the beauty and tranquility of this location.
